THE EDUCATION COMMISSION serves the parish by ensuring that a life-giving knowledge of Jesus Christ and the Catholic faith is imparted to adults and children. This mission is accomplished through consultation with the Pastor in the planning, development, implementation and review of the parish education/formation programs. Commission members are selected through an annual discernment.
Christian Initiation
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which our parish forms the men, women and children discerning God’s call to follow Christ and embrace life in the Catholic community. Sessions begin each year in the fall. Adults wishing to be baptized, or baptized in another tradition who now seek full communion as well as parents seeking initiation sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) for their child should contact Rita Schieber, RCIA Coordinator at 770-962-2765 ext. 219 or by email at rschieber@saintlaw.org for more information.
Adult Faith Formation
Many adult Catholics desire to deepen their relationship with God. To support this desire and to sustain on-going, life-long faith formation, our parish offers various programs and classes throughout the year to nurture and sustain adults on their journey of faith, a journey that began when they were baptized. A brochure listing such offerings is printed twice a year; once in September and again in January. Current sessions are highlighted in the weekly parish bulletin. For further information contact Diane Maguire, DRE at 770-962-2765 or by email at dmaguire@saintlaw.org.
High School Youth Ministry
The High School Youth Ministry program uses the Life Teen Curriculum on Sunday nights. We also have an optional gospel study on Wednesday nights, open to all our registered high school students. Confirmation is celebrated in the spring of the 10th grade year. Those wishing to be confirmed need to be registered in the Youth Ministry program for both 9th and 10th grade. As faith formation does not end with confirmation, our confirmed juniors and seniors are encouraged to continue to participate in the program as their faith journey is still unfolding. For more information on the High School Youth Ministry program, please contact Kelly Schreckenberger, Youth Minister, kschreck@saintlaw.org.
Middle School Youth Ministry
Middle school aged youth ministry students participate in The EDGE. The large group atmosphere of The EDGE creates an environment where the youth are part of a large faith community, yet still in smaller groups divided by grade level to create friendships with their Catholic peers. For more information on the Middle School Youth Ministry program, please contact Kelly Schreckenberger, Youth Minister, kschreck@saintlaw.org.
Parish School of Religion
Parents as the primary religious educators of their child are supported inthat ministry by our parish school of religion. “PSR” offers faith formation classes for children who are 3 years old by Sept. 1 through 5th grade. Our program includes academic instruction as well as opportunities to put one’s faith into practice through Spirit Week activities. Contact Beth Hodgson at 770-962-2765 ext 218 or by email at bhodgson@saintlaw.org for more information.
Parish Library
The library is located on the second floor in room 209. There are books, DVD’s and videos, and magazines on all aspects of the Catholic faith. Our parish library’s collection is organized according to the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: 100’s=Creed; 200’s=Liturgy and Sacraments; 300’s=Moral Life; 400’s=Prayer. Checkout is by the honor system. If you need assistance, contact Diane Maguire at 770-962-2765 ext 223.
